Absolutely great book, that blends action, philosophy and teenage social dynamics perfectly. It was recommended to me by one of my best friends, and she was absolutely right - the style grabs you, it's easy to read, yet it sends such powerful messages. As may be expected by the title ('Evil' in English), you end up really empathising with the characters, particularly for me Pierre, who ends up being bullied aggressively as a consequence to Eric's resistance to the seniors. Conversely, you alsoThis is by far one of the most chilling books I've ever read. It's more or less entirely autobiographical, about a bullying and physically abusive father, and the years the author/protagonist spent in an upperclass boardingschool where you end up at the bottom of the hierarchy if you don't fight your way up.
Not entirely sure about the rating. Should probably have read it rather than listened to it. Jan Guillou's reading didn't bring much to the experience. I'm a big fan of the movie adaption, and having read the book now, I'd say I prefer the movie over the book.
My teacher made me read this and I will never forgive her. This book sucks, partly because the main character didn't have one single flaw whatsoever! While reading this book (and that took me forever) I forgot that there actually exist good books out there, I gotta go and remind myself.
This book, "The Evil", is one of those books that sucked me in and left a lasting impact on me. Erik is a smart boy who's getting beat up by his dad every day and beats up others at school every day. He gets a chance to finally ditch the violence as he starts at a new middle school, but that turns out not really to be a possibility, as he's simply substituted his dad's tyranny for another. Many extremely violent scenes, contrasted with Erik's incredibly intelligent thoughts, plans and schemes,
The book is amazing. It first I thought it may be dark and depressing but it was one of the best read. It's written in a very light way with great sense of humor at times and lots of learnings. I couldn't stop reading it.
