Ich wollte einen Krimi lesen und als solcher wurde mir dieses Buch "verkauft". Ich fand das Buch teilweise auch interessant und spannend, nur diese ganze Märchengeschichte hat mir wirklich nicht gefallen, am allerwenigsten die Aufloesung am Ende... - Ok, im Englischen heißt das Buch "Brother Grimm"und dem Titel wird es ja wohl auch gerecht, weniger allerdings meinen Erwartungen an einen guten Krimi.Ein früherer Kommentar zum gleichen Buch von mir (als ich ca. ein Drittel gelesen hatte): I knowIf you like mysteries, you'll love this one. A few years ago, I had really enjoyed Russell's first Jan Fabel detective novel, Bloog Eagle, and I was hoping the second novel would not disappoint. Ugh. This book had so much going for it, it really did. The storyline was great, it was just written so badly it was difficult to read!The major failing of this book was the constant referring to things in German, I don't speak German, so i'd just skim over the words. Or I'd read them, and try to think of a word that was similar to it.Needless to say this made the story confusing!Another thing that peeved me was the reference to the main character in the novel by his full police title in german
This is one of those books that can stir something inside us. Even though it is the second in the series it was not dependent on it's predecessor for this story. We probably all know somebody like the protagonists. Personally I found the plot good, the writing ok, and unlike some I was not bothered by the long German official descriptions; if you are going to read about other cultures/countries you had better be prepared to immerse yourself at least a little bit in the idiom. This is part of a police series set in Hamburg by a Scottish author. There is an insane serial killer at loose whose murders are related to Grimm's Fairytales and finally Jan Fabel and his team catch him. This isn't a bad story if you can stomach the grotesque murders but for me none of the police characters came to life. On the plus side there were some clues to the identity of the murderer which I should have spotted but did not. On the minus side the author uses German terminology throughout
