Songbird
Teya was taken away from her home when she was just ten years old. Captured, a device which impeded her magic was placed around her neck and for the next ten years she was a prisoner of the King of the Old Country, forced to sing for him for it is in her voice that her power lies. Any attempt to use too much magic causes her immense pain, until the day she is rescued by an ambassador from neighbouring Braemar who thinks her people are the source of a magical elixir wreaking havoc in his home.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is not what I was expecting, and that is a good thing. In this book we meet Teya, who was kidnapped when she was a child, so that she can be a prized item or Songbird for the king. No one, including Teya, knows how much more she is capable of. Enter the handsome Bran to rescue her from captivity, and help her on her journey. She must save her people, stop a madman, and fulfill her destiny. Sounds easy, right?
me, seeing that this blurb has the line 'Now, as she nears the completion of her journey, she realizes the path she is destined to take will also tear her from the man she loves. Can she give up everything she is for him?' and instantly angered about women dropping everything for men regardless of love or not:
When I picked up this book, the first thing I noticed was that it looked like she had some sort of metal retainer in her mouth. It was odd, so I showed it to my boyfriend and asked him what he thought it was. He looked at the cover for a moment, then said that it looked like there was an elaborately dressed blow-up doll on it. Nice.I really wanted to like this book, but it was just oh-so-wrong all the time. First of all, the words are printed too small to read comfortably, plus it's in an odd
Songbird captured my interest from the first page. I am an avid fantasy novel reader and this book is now one of my favorites. I loved the originality of the plot and the use of magic through music. But the best part was how the romance between the two characters developed. It never overshadowed the plot, but became an integral part of who the characters were. How everything resolved was highly satisfying and left me feeling euphoric. A great read!
great story idea, terrible writing. No plot development, no character growth, very disappointing.

Teya is desperate. Caught by the King and held for her magical singing abilities, she is ready to do anything to escape, or die trying. When her own plans fail, an ambassador from another country unexpectedly offers her a chance at freedom. All she must do is take him to her homeland. It sounds too good to be true, and she realizes she might only be exchanging one prison for another. When she challenges the ambassador, Bran, to remove her kundar, the hated collar that keeps her magic in check, he hesitates. She is a beautiful, exotic creature, but from the rumors he's heard, the collar is the only thing that will keep her from turning on him, and he needs her help to find the elixir sym, that threatens to destroy his country. A precarious alliance forms between them, and their journey begins. But it quickly becomes filled with treachery and deceit. Teya must learn who she really is, for if she fails, her people and the magic they weld are lost forever. Now, as she nears the completion of her journey, she realizes the path she is destined to take will also tear her from the man she loves. Can she give up everything she is for him?Specify Books To Songbird
